State Botanical Garden

Follow old rail and river corridors away from downtown traffic
The Firefly Trail starts near East Broad Street, crosses the North Oconee River, and enters Dudley Park on the former Athens Branch rail corridor. The North Oconee River Greenway connects a separate set of parks and riverfront segments. Check the current municipal map before expecting one uninterrupted loop; crossings and completed sections differ across the network.

Give the museum more than backup status
The Georgia Museum of Art is a destination rather than a weather fallback. Check the current exhibitions and free-ticket guidance, then pair the galleries with East Campus or a performance at the adjacent Performing Arts Center. The museum is east of the compact North Campus walk, so allow for the added distance.
